Awards recognising enterprising women of colour

Small firms run by women of colour have been called on to enter the British Library’s Precious Awards where winners will receive a “huge marketing boost for their business”.

The awards, which have been endorsed by the Prime Minister, are seeking inspirational BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) female entrepreneurs running businesses of all sizes in the UK.

Online magazine and business network Precious Online founder, Foluke Akinlose, said: “Being able to call your business ‘award-winning’ is a huge boost in terms of marketing and PR. We’re looking for small-business owners who are visibly showing that women of colour are contributing directly to the economy.”

Small firms are eligible to enter all award categories, which include Start-Up Business of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Social Enterprise Business of the Year.

There is a £5 entry fee, and applicants can download an entry form from the website. The deadline for entry to the Start-Up Business of the Year award is 30 August, for all other award categories it is 2 September.
